There is nothing more powerful than daily fasting. Whether I am on holiday or not, whether I am working or not, whether I am travelling or just relaxing at home, whether I am celebrating or mourning a loss, whether I am sick or vibrant and full of life, and regardless of the season or events of the days, I strive to fast daily. Fasting has become an ingrained habit in my daily routines because I have experienced fast-hand, the benefits it has on the body. Note: while I fast, In drink plenty of water and either coffee or tea, black and sugarless.

Fasting is a natural remedy for modern society’s problems, and I will continue to exploit it, and I encourage everyone to try it, unless you have a medical condition that does not allow you, which is very rare.

Try fasting and discover the multitude of benefits. Increased focus and productivity is just one of many benefits of consistently practicing fasting.

Laser-Focus and Increased Productivity

Colleagues at work often ask me how I can stay all day long without eating. My simple answer to them is that I am not hungry, and they aren’t either. We have become accustomed to eating every time because we have access to food at anytime and anywhere. We eat because it is a social norm. We are addicted to eating every time, and it is costly, not only financially but also health and productive-wise.

Nowadays, we eat to satisfy our high raging dopamine levels. We eat to feel good not because we want to nourish our bodies. Immediately we eat, we have that thrill, we feel more energetic, we feel happy, and we feel we can achieve anything. I have felt that. However, it is just a feeling, and it does not last for long. The feeling stems from the brain releasing dopamine-the feel-good hormone.

Dopamine Rush

Dopamine only lasts for a short-while and once it dips, the body craves for more, and how does one achieve that feeling again? They will eat more, have a snack here and there, and then another meal, and then we are stuck in that cycle, just to feel good.

Laser-Focus

Fasting at work gives me a laser focus and concentration I need to achieve my role as a nurse. I am more productive in a fasted state than when I am full. Sometimes I break my fast early, between 2pm and 4pm, and once I do that, I feel more tired, less motivated, less productive, and more lethargic and sleepier. Eating every now and then leaves one more tired because the body recruits more energy to digest, absorb, and process food. When fasting, this energy will be used to think and focus.

Personally, when fasting I can concentrate and focus for longer than when I eat. Research supports this, and if you want to look up, please be my guest. Your brain is at its best when you fast. However, this only works if you practice fasting daily and make it a lifestyle. You are probably not going to see the result if you fast for a day. Your body has to adapt. Make it a habit and it will be effortless.

Gut-Brain Axis

There is an important gut and brain connection, scientifically known as the brain-gut axis, and a gut that is not rested, ever processing the food we consume all the time can become leaky and inflamed.

Once the gut has a problem, the brain is also affected, resulting in mood and anxiety disorders, and less brain function. All these result in reduced mental clarity, focus, and concentration, and the final outcome is reduced productivity. There you go. You have the secret. If you struggle to concentrate at work, ry fasting and you will notice how efficient and effective you become at completing tasks.

Not Just Fasting

The body works optimally if you subject it to the right conditions. Thinking of fasting? Ensure your diet is healthy, keep your body hydrated, ensure you get adequate sleep, and be active. If any of these is inadequate or lacking, you may not achieve the desired outcomes. Start small and be consistent, and you will notice impeccable results.
